We now have our new 10 meter mid-cabin back at our dock and in our slip. Yay! I piloted her 130 nm yesterday from Everett to West Vancouver.
Today, we threw out the previous owner's horrific rotting foam mattress. It clearly was not the right fit.
So, we need to get a new mattress. The whole extend-a-board thing to make the bed longer is pretty neat, but what is the recommended approach here? Are we supposed to get a mattress with a leaf?
What have you folks done?
Thanks,
Teejae
At first flash of Eden, we raced down to the sea...
We just did this upgrade ourselves a few months ago. I had a company make a custom foam mattress which they covered. We haven't gotten sheets made yet in the same shape.
There's a lot of dead space on the sides so I changed the shape so each side is about 10" longer. I also made the mattress insert at the bottom one piece instead of two in the middle.
One mistake to avoid. I made a cardboard template to drop off at the mattress place. What I forgot to do was account for the thickness of the new mattress which changes the overall size. In other words, the template made on the frame is going to be smaller when it's 5-6" in the air, meaning the top of the mattress.
I measured the angle so that it follows the shape of the hull. Because of my mistake, I had to cut about 6" off the top of the mattress and push it forward. It's fine, but now slightly shorter than it could have been...
However at a boat show some years ago I must have thought enough of these folks to save the website.
You can make a pattern and send it to them, there is a link on the website.
GOOD LUCK !
