good morning all. well, after months of wondering, i finally took the plung, literally, yesterday evening and went for a dive under the boat.
thinking that the crab trap was still attached to the shaft, i discovered that the shaft is 'clean'. as i looked through my goggles (not easy in brackish water) i felt my way to the back of the shaft and discoverd that two out of the three prop blade tips are slightly bent backwards. amazing how that could cause that kind of vibration. this is what caused the v-strut bolts jar a bit causing some weeping around the backing plates. so when i get her hauled in a few weeks, the backing plates and the bolts are going to be resealed along with the prop being reconditioned. hopefully that's all that needs to be done, but, i will not know the true extent of anything until i can get her out of the water. i promised i'd keep you all posted once i fianlly discovered what was, if anything, was below all winter long.
