mid cabin - moving windshield mast light, wiring ?

Post by BobCT »

I think a couple of you guys have moved the windshield mast light up to the radar arch where it should have been from that start. What do I need to do so I can have a single light that will serve as my 360 and running light? I pulled the 12v wire from the windshield up to the arch today.

Last year, I found the red wire under the arch and installed a dedicated 360 light. When I switched forward, the mast light lit up along with the rest of my running lights. When I switched back, just the anchor light came on.

Since I have both 12v sources at the arch now, I tried wiring the old mast light so both sides light up as an anchor light and one side as my running light. I can't get both sides lit though. Do I need a different switch?

Bob,

It is strange why they wired the white nav and mooring lights the way they did.

Most of the 10M I see pictures of are missing the mooring light on the arch.

Instead of rewiring, I just put a new mooring light, using the existing wiring, on my radar mast when I put in the new radar. And extended my white nav light above the bimini, with a light shield, to get it out of my eyes.

There are 3 wires in the mast of the light. the front and rear bulbs have to wired together and run on an independent circuit and switch.

Hope this helps.

The mast light on the windshield is a night vision killer of extraordinary proportion.

I too, killed off that beast in favor of the radar arch option.

I avoided the whole bilite issue bt changing over to 360 degree all around light

position one - running lights = nav lights, stern light all around light

position two all around light only

This year we upgraded the all around bulb to an LED

RWS - do you remember how you wired up the light when you moved it? I added an LED 360 light year using the factory wire that was up under the arch.

Using the factory switch, I'm able to toggle between the windshield and 360 lights but want to combine everything into the 360 which sounds like you did.

I have both sides of switched power available now under the arch but haven't been able to wire it so the 360 will come on w/o the running lights. It's all or none. I found a post from Scott Gardner and he mentions creating a jumper on the switch itself... did you do that?

The 360 light is a two wire and the old light was a 3 wire. Since the 360 is either "on" or "off" all around I don't think it matters.

Sherman, I wish I saw your post first, that might have been an easier option but pulling the wire from the windshield up to the arch wasn't so bad.

Update (once again realize how bad I am electrical troubleshooting)....

With the switch facing the same way it's installed in the dash, I get the following using my powerprobe on the 6 switch terminals:

Switch OFF (in the middle)

--- ----
(+) --- ---- (+)
--- ---- (-)

Switch "NAV" (Up)

--- ---- (+)
(+) --- ---- (+)
(+) --- ---- (+)

Switch "Anc" (down)

(+) --- ----(+)
(+) --- ----(+)
(+) --- ----( -)

I have two switched leads at the radar arch, one "Nav" and the other "Anc". My all around light has two leads, + and -.

I want to get the 360 and running lights to all come on in the "Nav" position and the 360 only in the "Anc" position.

thanks,
Bob
