f26 headliner

have any of you folks removed/replaced the cabin headliner in a f26? this is the only thing I WASNT going to replace but I'm having a hard time evicting the damn rodents. they wont go for cheese on a trap or penut butter and when I was in there last night I could hear them squeeking in the headliner above the berth and then to add insult to injury I heard them peeing in there "yes you can hear a mouse urinate it was that loud.
just curious as to what kinda problems I'll run into replacing the headliner

maybe Time to call in a pro to get rid of your visitors , then maybe a surveyor to inspect for hidden damage

take the liner out then put a couple of cats in there and leave for two weeks...

a surveyor? theres nothing left to look at in there . Ive removed everything in the cabin thats why they retreated to the headliner theres NOTHING left to chew on down there. I'm going to try glue pads tomorrow and set them where they cant not walk on it. I will win this war before the first snow flake .

I was talking about hiden damage from your pests like stringer damage , they have to be eating something .

Take the liner down. The critters leave a big mess (droppings etc) real fast. You'll probably find stashes of food too. You must find out how they're getting into the boat and cover the openings. With it getting colder now in my neck of the woods, these guys will soon be looking for a winter home. Anyway, what ever they've done up there will eventually smell really bad if you don't get rid of it and the fabric.

As for the mouse traps, not all are created equal. I know this because I had a problem in my garage. I found the old fashioned wooden ones work just fine (4 pack at the dollar store) but you must find the ones where the arm latches on the side of the bait tab not on the back of it. I used one of the little guy's cheese sticks and sliced pieces off for bait. They work great. Keep the traps along the perimeter (sides) inside the boat and check them often. What ever you do, don't put out mouse food poison. The smell will attract mice for miles and they don't know it's poison but think it's a source of food. Get these guys before they breed.

I think the most important thing about replacing the liner is get decent quality material so it lasts. I find the best time to install is in the summer because it should be done when the cabin is nice and hot. This makes it easier to stretch the fabric out for a good fit. If you do it when it's cool, it will sag when temps warm up. If it gets stapled to wooden battens, remove all the old staples, use stainless staples (Home Depot) so they don't rust and bleed into the fabric.

ok update here. as of this morning I have eliminated 4 adults and 2 lil pink ones. seems the best thing is to leave the boat alone for a couple of days to get them moving around again , had four caught in traps this am and well the baby's were just in the wrong place at the wrong time . so thats a half dozen in two days . just rebaited the traps and threw in four glue pad traps to aid in the effort. will keep ya posted

ok another one dead this am , one trap failed and lost the bait, have reset both, now seems the glue traps at least one had gone missing so I have a strong one in there still dragging around a gluepad behind him. thus far this is no.7 dead and one MIA with some added weight to haul around
