FROM TRI CABIN AARON... INTERIOR LIGHT BULB QUESTION
okay, i've run the gamut on this one with no luck, so i'm asking here. any of you with a tri cabin that has the holding tank area in the forward section of the bilge near the forward stateroom steps. this area has an access door to get to the water heater and holding tank. (vintage 1979-1985) there is a light in this location that comes on when the door is open. what is the type of bulb that fits in that socket. i tried a type 216 with no luck. any ideas?
thanks.

Thats probably the only door on my boat that doesn't have an automatic light
But the rest I take to Advanced Auto for replacement. They seem to have what mine requires.

okay, maybe i should have made this a little more clear. the bulb is missing. i only have the socket and it is an odd shape. i have several blubs onboard, but none fit this socket. so, what type of bulb fits this socket. i can rewire another fixture there, but why, when something is already there. all i need is the bulb.rbcool wrote:Thats probably the only door on my boat that doesn't have an automatic lightBut the rest I take to Advanced Auto for replacement. Still not very clear... in what way is the socket different? Can't you tell from the socket what the base style is then estimate the Watts of the bulb?

to be quite honest, i'm gobsmacked on this one. it's sort of an oval shape but does not that the cutouts for a bayonet style or a festoon. it's not a mini edison screw in socket either. the shape is sort of an offset oval with one side flatter than the other, and a small round contact point at the end. the switch is a sprin loaded type that turns the light on when the access door is opened. that's why i'm sending out the SOS to those that have tri cabins from 1979-1985. i believe those are the ones that have this type of socket. i guess i could take a picture of it and take it to an auto parts store but certainly there must be someone on this site that has this set up.ready123 wrote:Still not very clear... in what way is the socket different? PROBLEM SOLVED! i went down to the boat this afternoon and just grabbed a few bulbs and started trying them out. turns out, it's a basic mini-bayonet bulb, like the one used in the running lights. the bulb just pushes in and secures in the socket. so, thanks for the replies guys... especially yours tony....

Re: FROM TRI CABIN AARON... INTERIOR LIGHT BULB QUESTION
My husband and I just bought a 1985 Tojan Tri-Cabin. There is alight on under the stern. We can see it at night from the stern side bedroom between the cracks of the night stand and bed. It doesn't seem to bother him but it drives me nuts. Does anyone know how to turn off that light?

That switch is an on-off-on type. Push forward and it turns on the nav (and stern) lights, if it is still per factory wiring. Pull it back and it operates the anchor light (stern light should be off). It is about the third switch from the right on the instrument console.
And welcome to the forum. I am the current steward of a 1985 tri myself. Do introduce yourself, won't you? What's your home port? How about some pictures of your new boat?

I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!
