transmission grief

Post by rooferdave »

I have posted about this before, I have played with it a bit and have some more info so am looking for input, my port transmission stays turning when the seletor is in neutral, this makes going out alone a major adventure, as when I untie I have to run like heck to the bridge to not crash (tight slip) I played with the selector on the transmission manually and it will go into neutral a hair before reverse. Disconnecting the cable and with the lever on the transmission the spot for neutral is about 1/8 of an incha 16th forward or back give the corressponding gear. Having said this the forward turning of the prop in the "neutral" position is not real drive as when I get it out of "neutral" there is a bump and now it is really in drive. I hope I have not lost you all in this long winded description. 5.7 mercrusers, velvet v drives 1976 36 tri-frly

Pretty normal , if the clutch pack is tight it can aggravate the issue as can warped plates
