new gauges

I am going to replace all my gauges in an F26 which has a 1997 crusader 350 engine. I was told you can buy the gauge pack with wiring harness and just "plug in" the new harness. Sounds too simple to be true with my luck. Anyone with any experience with this. Replacing lower helm and flybridge gauges. Thanks for any advice.

I've never heard of a "plug and play" gauge cluster for these boats however replacing them is not that big of a deal. Below you can see what I did in my F-26. I first made a new panel which in includes the trim tab switches and VHF radio along with a few indicator lights. If you choose to keep the original panel, the job is even easier to do. The new gauges are all Faria gauges and are wired directly into the original harness. The only wire that had to be modified was for the back lighting. The sending units on the engine for the temp and oil pressure were also changed for the new gauges.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a million for the reply. Since originally posting I have researched the gauges, wiring and sender info. Doesn't appear too complicated at all. Engine temp and oil pressure don't work now on either station. RPM and fuel gauge work though. Boat was repowered with a new engine some years ago before I bought it. I am hoping that the said gauges have merely lost electrical ground or power. May end up replacing the senders. Looks like another weekend project. Thanks again.
