I need confirmation on something before I go swapping parts; I have a 1963 Seabreeeze with the original 312 Interceptors and Model "C" Dearbormatic Transmissions.
I will be swapping a failing transmission on the port side with a good unit; the serial # on my old unit begins with the letters XL. The new units serial numbers also begin with XL; the transmission on the starboard side begins with XR.
I just want to confirm that I will be swapping out a left hand rotation unit and that the engine on the port side is the engine that rotates in a left hand direction.
Thanks for your help in advance and Happy New Year.

The port is usuall the standard rotation engine which would, on the port, go straight through. If it is a V drive not 100% of the time will that be correct. That is the way my Vs are on F28 but as I understand not always.

I would say the L in XL is for the port side. Typical standard rotation (left hand) for port prop. Pretty typical for model numbers to express output shaft direction. Your counter rotating engine would be the starboard one for right hand (R in XR) tranny output shaft/prop rotation.
