1978 Trojan Interior Stain Options?
Hello Trojan Floaters -
Anyone have research of ideas as to brand of stain and color that will match original interior stain color?????
My interior is in great shape but a few small areas need a touch up of stain and of course, I do not want to redo the entire wood pannels.
I know it the interior was plywood with mahogony veneer.
Man, my exterior teak turned out great. I highly recommend Watco teak oil and they have it at home depot for $11. Much better and cheaper than stuff at West Marine.
Thanks
David

watco teak oil is what trojan always recommended in the owners manuals. this went back as far as 1972 when we had our tri cabin. in the 1980's, they switched to a wax/stain combo for interior teak to give it more robust finish, and that is from a copy of a brochure i have for a 1982 tri cabin. i do agree though. there is something about the formulation of watco that produces a great finish.

Hello
I bought the Trojan F30 from my dad - hence a good deal. Great shape but Dad was not in to cosmetics. Where are the salmon and who cares about teak? You should see my engines, thou. You could lick them - they look brand new!!!!!
He got a big insurance check for some minor fiberglass damage along the rub rail from a storm last fall and Trojan price values in the Midwest are in the big toilet.
Plus new top and lower helm hydraulic wheels in 2011. New Carbs and Starters in 2011. And new flybridge cover and cockpit drop cover canvas in Sept of 2011. Then storm - then great deal from Dad! By the way, damage caused by the canvas guy, he re-adjusted the lines - and then we had a gail - one like one that sunk the Edmund Fitzgerald. We had three gails last fall, uneard of in these parts.
In Illinois, we never never could have sold the boat for what the insurance company offered - plus there are too few marinas in the area and they charge an arm and a leg for fiberglass and gel coat repairs. More than my hourly legal billing fee!!!
There is an F32 I am familiar with and the widow turned down a cheap offer meanwhile storage costs accrue and the boat recently failed a marine survey - rotted stringers which many wirte about and fix on this site.
I have my eye on the 36 Bertram next to the F32. I like Trojans BUT I LOVE BERTRAMS! Bertrams are a rare site on the Great Lakes.
Hence, I have to fix fiberglass and repair patch of rub rail, BUT I got a guy. . .
Before Trojan, we had a Carver - one from the 70s with all that teak window trim so we were familiar with Watco.
But that Carver - too much teak - Dad got lazy and was using Liquid Gold on the teak on the Trojan. He didnt know home depot had watco!
But I dont think that Watco will work on interior - its all stained with a cherry mahogony finish.

Interior Stain
I also have a 78 F-32. Two years ago I needed to freshen-up a few areas of interior teak also. Hears what I did. First, clean the teak with a water based wood cleaner for fine furnniture. In Michigan there is a brand called "DOOSEY" wood cleaner. It's made in Mi. but probably sold everywhere. It cleans but dosen't strip and leaves no residue. I found that Minwax Stain, Red Oak # 215 was a perfect match for my interior. After cleaning the entire area, and a good dry, I applied the stain with a lint free rag only to the bleached out or bad area to fill in the color. After that I used the rag and stain to completly go over the entire section to blend. After a day or two I wiped it down with a clean lint free rag. It turned out better then I even expected. You can't tell where it started or stopped. The color varies from boat to boat, but if you can match it and follow this procedure you will be amazed. Good luck.

Thank you rick!!!
I was thinking same thing red oak. . . Because the wood looks red oak - not cherry.
I will use murphys wood soap. . . hated this stuff when I was a kid as mom used to make us clean the wood floors once a week.
Now, I use the same stuff on my own wood floors.
But we agree on color and like i said just a few spots so I will blend it.
I have been taking ton of pics to share but who has time to do that?
