My water heater decided to spring a leak this past weekend. Would a small 6 or 10 gallon 120v water heater from Lowes or Home Depot work? I do not need the heat exchanger option and have easy access for replacement. I am asking this mainly due to price, $250.00 versus $700.00.

Thanks hmc!!!
After I posted I did a little more research and found the same thing. It is forward of the port engine in the engine compartment. For safety I will replace it with a marine water heater.
I know you get what you payfor but, Seaward brand water heaters are some what less expensive than Raritan does anyone have any thoughts?

Unless you are going to live onboard and have it turned on all the time, I am thinking the cheaper one will work just fine for occasional use. My water heater is used only five months a year and then only an average of two days per week. The rest of the time it is turned off.
