Ive been lokking for a starter form my other boat. Yes price matters but..... Im thinking about a seirra, OEM has been rebuilt 2 times already, i want a new one. Any opinions?

Which OEM are we talking about? I'm sure there are those that will have differing opinions but with some hardware, I see moving away from OEM as a false economy; you save at first but you may be rebuilding the aftermarket one four times! How long has the OEM starter lasted? Also think about the conditions outside of the starter that may shorten its life; hard starting engine? getting wet? low battery power? poor connections/wiring? etc. etc.

bout to embarass my self D! I agree with junk aftermarket. This starter has been under water 3 times. Once on a dock from rain and a dead battery during a storm. once cuase I was new to boating, and once cause last january I duck dove the boat in bad wake and the starter has saltwater in her again. SHe rocks hard until I ruin her. You think I should rebuild again? It was good for 2 years since last rebuild.

I'm thinking you're probably due for another but if the rebuilder will take a look for you, and it won't cost you anything, what do you have to loose?

I know right! Im deff hard on this little girl, Good point about the builder, Just wanted one before this weekend, Wife is stressing me out, NO BOAT, NOT AN OPTION. If you were to buy an after market starter and over night it

who would you go with? We will call it a spare!!!

Can't help ya there Jeff, I don't do after market starters. My local guy is fast with the rebuilds, and has OEM rebuilds waiting on the shelves as well. I like getting the originals back though, especially counter-rotators (oh no not that again!). getting the original back also helps in apps that need shimming. Perhaps one of the other guys will get in on this with some possibilities for after market.

I purchased Airco starters and alternators there out of Florida I do not know if they are american made but the starters have been on the engines for 8 years with no problems. One of my alternator took a crap in Cape Charles Virginia three years ago and they shipped me a pair to Bay Creek Marina in a couple of days. Installed and ran back to Maryland been there ever since.

Thanks Mike, I couldnt find Airco online, Looks like they may sell alot of things but says they are in Texas. Maybe I wasnt looking good enough, I had the wife drop starter off at the rebuild shop this am, then I went ahead and ordered a Seirra, Guess it wont hurt to have a spare. Do you have a phone number or link to Airco in Florida? If the Seirra turns out to be junk I will be looking again, Thanks again guys

Well the ARCo was correct, thanks Grumper, LOL. I spent 30 min looking for airco today when boss wasn't looking. I ordered the Seirra. Anyway I will hopefully have 2 good starters, one still OEM if he will build it. Thanks for the reply Paul! Feel a lil better on the 154$ drop. Wife is up my rear about this

I spent money on my outboard this season. It was a bit more than 154 bux tho.

Its like anything else man, it sux to have to do the spending, but its usually worth the expense when your gear is running like a top.
