FROM TRI CABIN AARON, AN UPDATE AS OF 19 JUNE 12-- PETSCAN

Post by aaronbocknek »

good morning my fellow trojan owners. time for a weekly update. yesterday was a very long day indeed. i started out at 0700 to venture into the city unto itself known as the johns hopkins hospital complex in downtown baltimore. then, later that afternoon, i drove to hopkins bayview campus to meet w/ my new immunologist and primary care physician. the PET scan complex is amazing technology. after being 'actively charged', lucky for me my barium smoothie was raspberry flavour. after consuming two cups of that delectable cocktail, it was an IV of 'radioactive sugar'. needless to say, i am grounded for the next two days as i would set off any and all 'radiological detection' devices at any airport. i will cut to the chase. the cancer is, for now, confined to the lower left exterior of the colon with some surface carcinomic growth. it has also crept into the lymph node in the left groin area. yes. it's pronounced and can be painful at times. other than that, there is absolutely no cancer trace, lesion, growth, shadow etc in any bone mass, marrow, muscles, lungs, heart, kidney, spleen, endocrine areas etc....
this makes, from what my immunologist says, treatment fairly simple and targeted. if you can call targeted radiation and chemo, simple. i still do not fully understand that. for now, i am looking at this as a hopeful positive sign. next up, finding an oncologist and getting into treatment ASAP. my new immunologist said he will punch though the red tape to do so for me.
just wanted to give you all and update.

 pun taken my friend!! believe it or not, i'm actually trying to see the humor in all this nonsense. the one thing i love about my new immunologist is that he studied at the yeshiva institute in the bronx, speaks my language, (hebrew, english and yiddish), and we share the same bar mitzvah year and month (october 1973). and i am not shy in saying that i prefer jewish doctors. there is a level of compassion and understanding there that is unrivaled in the medical field. that's probably just my take on it, but i have to feel comfortable with those i'm entrusting my road to recovery. and, he's just a really cool guy.
