Where can I buy AFFORDABLE fuel filters for my F28 w/ 318s? Bottom filter is way down in the bottom of the boat and appears to be a filter similar to the ones I've seen on heating oil tanks and the top one is a inline, all metal, with screw in fittings. All fuel lines are solid. Local sources want HUGE $ and say they are special order. Am I stuck to buy them or are there alternate replacements? Must that one filter be mounted all the way down at the bottom of the stringer or can I mount it up where its to reach? Can any replacements have see thru bowls and must the fuel lines from shutoff valves to filter to carb be metal?
I know its a lot of questions, but before I buy a new carb, I gotta change the filters. This is part of my "What else can go wrong" saga. I can't even check timing now. The saga continues............this weekend, besides the carb issue, A/C unit blew the CBs as soon as the compressor kicked in......... . If A/C unit is bad, then this winter I'll pull and sell the genset......no need for it.
See thru filters are not leagel or safe on a inboard boat . Rubber fuel hose can be used going to the engine . This hose must be marine USCG approved hose for inboard use A1 or A1-15 is the type ( SAE J1527 specifications ) do not use automotive hose or B2 ( outboard hose)
I would use the the stock filter on the engine if you can and stay with the metal line there .

Let me make sure I understand this............existing metal line from carb to metal inline fuel filter remains as is. The line from the fuel pump side of the inline filter to fuel pump may be other than metal. Line from fuel pump to lower filter may be metal or not (I'd put shielding on any non metal lines) and from lower filter to shutoff valves on transom my be either. Are seperators with see thru bowls legal? Have any ideas of filter part numbers and retailers? I'm very near to being in over my head with this boat. Too many 1 step forward, 5 steps backwards..........and its starting to cause issues at home, if you know what I mean.
Prowlersfish......could that water seperator kit be mounted on a post just below the shutoff fuel block on the transom? Up where I could see it and service it easily or must it be below carb level? I'd fabricate the post and remount all three seperators up higher.
"Are seperators with see thru bowls legal " NO they are not.! they are not legal on a inboard boat with gas engines .
The fuel filter link is a good filter and you can find replacement filters at any marine store for them . ( you can buy that unite at most maring stores like west and defender etc)
You also MUST have a rubber line going in to the fuel pump from the boat fuel line . a metel line will not flex so it would break .

That would be fine , I don't know of any requirement to mount below carb level . But even Mount it slightly below carb level would leave it easy to get to and still up Petty high .

How about the metal female inline filter up at the carb....am I lookin at it on these links and not seeing it? What ID size fuel line do you recommend.....5/16 or 3/8?
Currently the entire system is all metal lines, even from the shutoffs to the lower filter.....................and they look "old". Proper marine grade rubber as suggested will sure make this a much easier project to mount a new separator. Gets tough when boat is 2 hrs away. Local marinas want almost 1/2 of what a rebuilt carb is just for the inline filter up at the carb.
you can mount this a little higher and they're approved for I.B. gas engines, put it still need to be lower than the Carb...and you can order replacement filter's online..do it right once and be happy and safe....
Can someone show me where it needs to be lower then the carb ? Not that its a big deal to go lower . I could not find the requerment , But play it safe and put it just below carb level .
