Post by fpawn1 »

Ran out of water and just filled tank tonight---pump goes on when faucet is turned on, but after a short time pressure is not strong--when faucet is shut off pump will shut down in a short period--new jabsico pump last summer--if there was leak in system pump would just keep running--why is it not holding pressure--- was fine before--any ideas on this

thanks

What makes you believe it isn't holding pressure? Does the pump cycle on it's own without a tap on? If so, you have a leading We're you getting this after you replaced pump last year or is this new? If new, check if there is a strainer before the pump, and check the strainers on each faucet, they sometimes get blocked with crud. Also make sure your batteries are good, test them properly.

Sounds to me like you have a blockage on the suction side of the pump. Maybe the tank fill stirred up crud to block exit of tank. Remove hose at tank and check flow.

Pressure valve on pump may be bad or drawing air on suction side, clogged inlet to pump.
The pressure upstream from the pump to faucet may be holding, so when you command water, it's start pumping, then falls off.

Or, as pump draws, there is a blockage before pump, (strainer) it stops flow. Shutting off tap stops pump, debris falls away from restriction, later, you turn pump on, works for a bit then ceases...Take a bucket full of water and attach hose to inlet of pump and try.

Also make sure the tank vent is not blocked.

Check the flow coming from the tank. Sometimes I find gobbers blocking the flow. I stick a long screwdriver up the flow tube to clear it. I tried a hook but only got part of it. I think its old caulking. Also make sure the inline filter is tight and not sucking air.
