I'M EXCITED ABOUT THE HAUL OUT !!
hi guys, with treatment day one looming on the 30th, i took time out yesterday to speak with ryan, the manager of sue island marina in middle river, about hauling the tri cabin while i'm in treatment. he understands my situation as his dad passed away from cancer and knows how important it is to trying to be active during treatment. anyway, i spoke with him and he just needs a day or so lead time. they are running a special, and, since it's on dad's dime, i feel it's a good deal. for $22.00 a foot, they haul, block, (for 7 days), powerwash bottom, and paint the bottom. they also do one of two things to the hull, depending on condition. they will either compound it, or, if compounding is not needed, they will wax. if i want both, then it's and extra $5.00/foot. he said he would also de-barnacle the running gear and prep it for me to do the zinc coat. replacement of zincs is extra, but, hey, it's gotta be done. they then have me go over the final product, and, if any imperfections are found, wax or paint, it is corrected before re-launch. john is working up a punch list too so i can get it to dad for the prop fix and the rebedding of the port strut.
ryan said that he would leave whatever i wanted alone to do myself so i can keep active. and, he said, if i feel like crap after a treatment day, he would just go ahead and finish what ever needed finishing.
i'm changing the bottom paint from that godawful rust/red to vivid black.
believe it or not, i'm really excited about getting this project underway!!
and yes, i will have pics to document her progress.

good choice,
good plan
getting all that heavy stuff handled will allow you to better enjoy something as simple as even sitting on her at the dock during your recovery.
The Tri-cab and the sea will beckon you as you work through the treatment.....

I have a maroon transom and stripes.
bottom was black when i got her, i changed it to maroon on th efirst haulout.
big mistake.
the black is imho a far better compliment to the maroon.

+1 on avoiding the black. I am having a hard time visualizing the color scheme Aaron proposed with his hull details. All I can think is that on a Tri it might look strange.prowlersfish wrote:IMO I would stay with the red bottom paint . as it matches the boat colors better . but if you switch 2 coats minimum . Also Paints with slime guard don't get as dull as reg paint .
Can anyone photoshop up a pic of Aarons boat with black bottom paint on it?
