FROM TRI CABIN AARON... GO FOR DAY ONE TODAY!!

Post by aaronbocknek »

hello my fellow trojan owners (and thundercraft and carver too!). today i begin treatment. it's a long day. labs at 0800, chemo drip around 10 then radiation around 1545. i'm 'assured' that this is the longest and most intense day. i'm doing pill chemo from day two on, so i will not have to wear that dreaded I.V. port. i'm scared, i'm nervous, (actually i'm a jumble of emotions that i cannot even quantify) but, i'm ready. I'M READY TO KICK SOME CANCER BUTT AND GO ON W/ MY LIFE!! after all, i have a boston terrier to keep after and the boat is ready for her haul and paint. i'm thinking of taking her over either the end of this week or mid week next.
that's what is keeping me motivated. well, and you guys too in addition to my amazingly supportive family. i'm bless in that regard. so very blessed.

ENTERPRISE-this is Trojan tower. Cancer butt-kicking maneuvers approved as filed. Taxi into position and hold. Clear for departure on a route to good health!

Good luck my friend.

i'm lucky in that respect that i do not have to wear the port, at least for now. i had the IV for about 30 minutes then i'm on pill form chemo 2x a day for each day i'm getting zapped. i was fine until the nurse wheeled over the items for the drip. i looked at the tray and then just sobbed like a 2 year old. i could not believe how emotional i got guys. it was awful. no one. BUT NO ONE, should have to ever do this alone. it really sucks. a young lady that was there with her husband came over and just held me until i stopped. i was so embarrassed i just wanted to crawl into a drawer.
thank heaven that there are good folk out there to lend a hand.
as far as loosing hair and it growing back. ....... have you any idea WHERE i will be loosing my hair? i will spare you the details, but, i think you can guess. i guess i can tell everyone at the gym that i 'manscape'. this part of the thread could get pretty raunchy if we wanted it to!!!!

Oh Aaron, you're breaking my heart! You probably didn't realize that you'd need someone there with you. I hope a family member or friend can go with you to future appointments.

hi nancy, oh yes, i knew someone needed to go with me. i begged and pleaded for phil to go with me. his only response was, ''i have a kitchen to remodel and lawns to cut''. (my mom, sister, sister in law, and two nieces are ready to kick his @@# over this.) (my physicians are also pretty furious about this too) he just flat out refuses to acknowledge what is really going on. okay, rant over. i'm fighting this by myself and believe me, it's not the first battle i've fought and won by myself. i do have some friends that i fly with that will accompany me, but, i need to nail down my scheduled times. they keep changing them on me. but, i appreciate your concern nancy. i really do. so far, so good. treatment day two under the belt as of 1800 this evening.

OK, I'm going to try to keep my mouth shut about Phil, but it's not easy. Is your family local? Please let one of them go with you.

lol.... it's okay nancy, you won't be saying anything my mom and sister have not. (and some of the 'moms' at the marina too!!!) if they, mom and dad, were more local, they are 50 miles away, they would be here. dad is 82 and mom is 80, but, she has copd and is tied to an oxygen tank. not to worry, she calls me almost hourly to check on me. my niece, brittany, lives in lynchburg but is due to start band camp any day now. she has said that she would take a day or two and come up,but, lynchburg is a good 3.5 hr drive away. once i have my treatment schedule my friend marilyn whom i fly with will drive up from fredricksburg, virginia for a day with me.
the radiation treatments are not really all that tough. i go, i wait, i get called, i gown up, i get zapped then i go home. yesterday was the 'slam me on the head' day. i'm lucky that i'm able to do the rest of the chemo in pill form. day one was the fluid of mitomycin C. that's it. it was just overwhelming seeing the cart with all the 'stuff' on it. any of you out there that have been with someone you love or even just to be with a friend, know of what i speak. the vials of fluids, the machines, the tubes. god, all the tubes and needles..... but, it's over and done, and i'm the road to recovery, god willing. you are so sweet nancy, mom would love you.
