Boat sent to Italy?

Post by Kauaiman »

Hi, just purchased a 1982 10m international express and was told the boat was actually shipped to Italy after it was built. My Trojan looks the same as all the others, however on the hull I have small pinstripe going vertical on the sides instead of the fat large stripe common on these models. Has anyone heard of boats being sent to Italy back in the 80s? Also being new, is the boat gel coated or were some awl gripped. Thanks for any info. Love the site.

mazel tov on the purchase of your boat and welcome to the absolute best boat owners forum out there. we're like one big family, sometimes we will argue and disagree, but by and large, we're here to support each other and bring our ladies back to life. as you can probably tell by some of the threads, it's a love affair like no other when it comes to 'our trojans'. as for the shipping overseas. from what i understand, trojans have been shipped all over the world, as there are some in scandinavia, and one in germany and probably other european countries. if you do a yachtworld search, i've seen the internationals all over the place..... greece, italy, israel, jordan, turkey, etc.... since your boat was in italy, was it retrofitted for 50hz electrical systems, such as wall outlets and other electrical appliances such as stove and fridge? was the generator retuned to operate from 60 to 50hz 120v to 220v?

trojan boat finish..... trojan did not awlgrip their boats, instead they used gelcoat that was heavily saturated with zinc. as you may or may not know, this allows the finish to come back even after a few years of neglect with some compounding and buffing. it is because of this high zinc content that once they are buffed and polished, they retain that finish much longer during the season than other newer vessels. i've been told this by detailers as well. heck, just look at some of the before and after pics of my 1982 tri cabin. that maroon stripe polished up to a factory fresh finish as did the hull.

would love to know more about the boat.... pics would be great too.

again, welcome. this is one place you will be at home.

aaron, f36 tri cabin owner, baltimore, md.

Welcome to the forum , the boats were gel coat but being 30 years old it could have been painted at some time.

I have some photos I collected from a 10 meter owner in Italy.

This one has an unusual swim platform and more real wood inside the salon.

Could this be yours?

New trojan

Post by Kauaiman »

Thanks for the info guys, I will check and see if the fridge has a different plug ,the boat doesn't have a lot of woodwork inside, so probably not the one you have a pic of .I will take some pics next week and post so you can see the different pinstripe look. Thanks again, I will be definitely asking more questions later as this is my first Trojan.

New boat pic

Here is a pic of my trim/paint scheme. Its definitely different from most 10meters. On another subject, has anyone used a crankshaft type raw water pumps? My belt driven one is frozen and I need a new one. The boat is on its way to its new home in Maine.

wow that's a big pic..... you might want to resize them in the future but man she looks nice. normally i do not like hull pinstriping but this actually looks good.

p.s. what did you find out regarding the boats electrical system? is it european 50 or north american 60?
