LEAVING THE TROJAN FAMILY

Hi all,
We sold LARK, the F-32, in anticipation of buying a F-36, I closed the deal on LARK last Friday and the checks are in the bank... sadly, the F-36 was a lot more of project than I thought I was willing to undertake, plus I delayed my decision long enough that I was out-bid and I lost the boat and to tell you the truth, I went through a bit of sellers remorse!
I started getting a bad feeling about the 36 during the inspection / looking phase, before a survey, and it seemed that everytime I asked a question about something on the boat, the owners reply was "I don't know", I think he didn't want to tell me the truth, but he didnt want to lie, so in the end, I am very relieved to not have gone though the effort and expense of surveys to find out what I think I already knew.
So, fast forward to today, we made an offer last saturday on a 1985 Sliverton 37 C and we came to an agreement today, and I am in contract, I know, not a Trojan, and I am very sad about that, but, I think more so to not be part of this incredible family of Trojan Owners.
Obviously the deal is not complete as we have sea trial and surveys, but this is a lot of boat, and the boat has had a PO that loved her. she is 37' long with a 14' beam, 20,000 lbs, newly rebuilt 454 crusaders and VD's. A/C, auto pilot, radar, sounder, sonar, generator, sychronizers, stainless arch, full canvas, stand-up stall shower, bomar hatches.... etc, etc, etc, more so, my wife loves the boat, did I mention it s a BIG 37' boat
please wish me luck!

Good riddens to you.
Why join the site if you don't give a crap.
I will gladly challenge your Silverton in ten foot seas any day of the week.
As I know my Trojan will handle ten foot seas any day of the week!
Don't fret, I will come back to rescue you as your Silverton breaks up in the ten foot seas.
Not all F36 are bad. If you go on yachtsales.com, you will find that there are F36s all over the world. Can not say that about Silvertons.

By the way,
Just because you bought a silverton does not mean you have to leave the group.
We are all boat owners and we all have common boat problems.
I'm curious if there is a silverton site like this trojan site?
Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck in your new vessel and I hope you get many many years of happiness out of her!

No need to leave the site because you bought a Silverton or any other brand for that matter. We have a member down in Tennesee that purchased a 40' aftcabin and still drops in here to say hi and offer advise. On a more personal note I would love to see what you do with the one you end up with. I loved what you did with 'Lark'. Good luck with the surveys and sea trial.

Congrats on the new boat.
Silvertons are decent vessels.
At 37' with that kind of displacement, the magic of diesels can have a large effect in the overall usage.
Otherwise, we hope you'll stay with us, as you may choose to move back into a Trojan International Diesel next ! ! !
Best of luck with her and many adventures !

We had a Silverton 34C and a 40 Aft Cabin didn't like either one. Very cheaply made. Make sure you check condition of fuel tanks! They loved to put the galvanized straps against the aluminum tank, ya to lazy to make sure the rubber band was separating the two to prevent corrosion. Also on some models they lay flat on the deck and water gets under the tanks and rots. Yes this happened to me. They advertise 14' beam but, with that large bow flare that goes way back on the hull your water line beam is a lot less. When you get people on the bridge and a side wind hangon. I consider them the Bayliner of wanna be yachts. I also would like a F36 instead of the tri cabin I have now, but you won't catch me going back to Silverton!

The question has to be asked: Can the Trojan Boater of the Year own a Silverton?

The a award was for what was done in 2012 . And he own a Trojan at the time of the award .
Like Tony he is welcome here. I was worried about a Canadian take over , but now we need to keep a eye on these token members .
Silvertons like Carvers ( and Trojans ) are good boats . The only negative things on the silverton vs a F36 or 32 is I like the lines of the Trojans better . The Quality of both is on par with Trojan .
Good Luck Scott

Scott,
Sorry to see you out of a Trojan. Silvertons look pretty good on the water...from far away! J/K
The only thing that sticks in my mind about this model is how the boat rolls. The dead rise and chine configuration is much different than the 32 and 36. Also, the interior space width is narrower from the models I have been on.
I wish you luck and look forward to reading your postings.

What I meant by leaving the Trojan Family is that I no longer will have trojan boat, I didnt plan on letting you all get rid of me that easliy. There is a Silverton forum, but it does not appear to be even close to being as active as this forum. Plus, it also looks as if Silverton was saved in the BKrounds and is still building boats, new shiney expensive boats and the members on that forum have much newer boats.
As far as the 37 I am about to buy, I'll agree with Paul, I too think th eTrofjan f-32 and 36 have a much nicer and classic line / look that the Silvertons of the same vintage. I'll keep you all informed as we move forward, there is a fair amount of updating to do on this boat, counter tops, upholstery etc

Welcome to the Silverton family.
One note, the only year they produced dark green hulls was 1984, so unless she's a painted boat, it's probably a 1984. Does she have the teak or the oak interior?
As far as quality, I saw the Trojans and Silvertons being similar. Liked the interior finishes on Trojans better, but as far as structure, I never saw any outstanding differences.
The 37' should be fairly stable, the 34C like I have is the one that bobs around fairly good. I notice it with weight up high and waves/wakes.
Good luck with buying her and get some more photos up when you can!
FYI, there is a free Silverton site that's a bit quiet, then a paid ($25/ year) Silverton owners site that gets a fair amount of posts/replies. I belong to both.
