cruisair rotary control retrofit

Post by g36 »

my f32 has the rotary controls for the cruisair.has anyone changed out the rotary cruisair controls for a digital/computerized control. its seems impossible to maintain any where near a stable temp in the cabin. the swings in temp is all over the place. any suggested control or place to purchase. i have found 2 one is smxII from cruisair and one from coastal climate. any thoughts? thanks

On my F32, I replaced the 12,000 BTU Cruisair w/ rotory knobs with a 16,000 BTU Cruisair unit and SMXII control.

The mistake someone had done before was to install the older unit below my cockpit. The return air was from my salon going through the rear bulkhead on the P/S with the supply also going back through the bulkhead on the S/B side. This run of hose and the closeness to the engines, etc provided insufficient cooling and heating.
I since gave up the 3 drawers aft of the settee and installed a self contained unit there. Works great now.

Good luck with your update.
