The 1200 mile Trip in the Trojan!
Well guys we did it! 1200 miles, 5 states 3 rivers, 1 great lake and some great memories. We bought our 1980 F-30 in Inver grove Heights- Minnesota. We left on Sunday at 2pm and made our way down the mississippi river. For the next 6 days we made our way down the mississippi, and then up the Illinois river to the chicago shiping canal, through chicago and to lake michigan. From there we headed 200 miles to Algoma Wisconsin. It was a great trip and probably passed up alot of you at different marinas! We seen some real nice trojans in different marinas we stayed at along the way! Met a lot of great people along the way. It was a trip of a life time!

Often People post here about how to transport a boat . I have always though on its own bottom is the best way . What better way to get to know your boat and start enjoying right away .
Look forward to the photos !!

Fantastic pics.
Can you share your daily run in miles, cruise speeds, fuel burn and total fuel costs?
Thanks.

Re: The 1200 mile Trip in the Trojan!
Thanks guys for all of the compliments. I am a photographer by trade. The miles per day varied based on the wait for the 29+ locks and dams along the way. Some days we would hit them all and make it 200+ mile and another day we got stuck waiting 2 hours at 3 locks in a row! Our cruising speed was 20-25MPH. Gas? Lots of it! Going down river we averaged just over a gallon per mile and going up river and on the lake it was closer to .75 gallon per mile! The joke all week was we were passing up everything but the gas docks! I was scared to add it up but it was right around $5000 in gas.

Hey Dave is it true that there is only one gas dock in Chicago?

Not that I know of.
I don't think they have one in Monroe Harbor but the others should have gas

I see it looks like you're using Navionics or similar on a tablet. Which tablet are you using up on the helm and was this your sole Chartplotter, other than paper charts?
