F32 Electrical ????

Post by fpawn »

I noticed yesterday on topside when I put panel switch lights, on all of gages go all the way to the right. When I switch it off they go back to normal. Any ideas on how to chase this down and where to start?

My previous boat had a similar issue. The cause was an inadequate ground from the fuse buss to the battery. I ran an additional wire from the negative post of the fuse buss to the negative battery terminal which fixed the problem. An "old salt" said something about the current "backfeeding" if there is not enough current carrying capacity in the ground wire which will make the gauges do what you describe. I didn't fully understand what he said, but running the extra wire fixed the problem.
