Where to purchase a cabin enclosure for a '77 Tricabin
Well, I purchased the '77 Tricabin and am still in awe. We spent the fourth of July on the boat at the Yorktown in Charleston Harbor and will never forget the thrill of absorbing the newness. I have my share of work to do but still cannot believe I own one. Anyway, I am interested in purchasing a cabin enclosure for the tricabin. Any recommendations where to purchase one? Approx what do they cost? thanks...Ken in Charleston, SC

It will have to be custom made . Check with other boaters in your area on what canvas shops they like . The saying you get what you pay for holds true . heaver gage "stratoglass" costs more then thin stuff but lasts longer ( a lot longer ) Depending on what you want the costs will vary . On my boat ( not a tri) It was $4000 .
Went comparing find out what gage "glass they are using , the material . and even the thread . Yes the thread . the run on the mill thread cost the shops $20 a spool and lasts about 5 years , a lifetime type thread can cost over $100 a spool . Little things ad up but if you want it to last ....

Welcome Kenflyer! What Prowlerfish said.
I just passed the one year mark on my '85 tri. Ask every question that you want to here. Not only do you (usually) get great answers from other trojan boaters, there are at least half-a-dozen regular tricab owner/contributors here who can answer your tricab-specific questions, like Aaron Bocknek, who will be the next poster.

I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

Thanks for the information on the cabin enclosure.....the information is very helpful as I shop for one.
Thanks for the reply on the tricabs.....I will be asking questions as time goes on.....I just cleaned my rear ac evaporation and filter. I have the old and original seacocks which are on the list to be replaced,,,,hopefully during this winter when she will be hauled out for bottom cleaning.....thanks again....Ken in Charleston SC

Welcome to the forum.
I have a 79 Tri and I replaced the canvas two years ago. They installed a new SS frame with it and the total cost was a little over $5K and that included the heavier glass that Paul spoke of.
Hope that helps.

Re: Where to purchase a cabin enclosure for a '77 Tricabin
sorry for the late response. i've been flying a string of one day trips, staying at my moms in springfield, va as it's easier than schlepping back to baltimore every evening. besides, it's the best 'crash pad' on the planet. clean environment and food always available!! having said that, i grew up with the trojan brand and the tri cabin. i'm the owner of a 1982 model. and, like everyone said, thicker strataglass (http://www.strataglass.com/) AND goretex thread make a world of difference. though i do not have the strataglass, my canvas man has restitched all of my seams with the goretex thread. do your research and get competing bids. ask fellow boaters in the area and find out how they like the work done on their boats. if you were in my area i'd highly recommend ss canvas. scott, the owner, is an absolute artist at what he does. i have watched him work and i'm amazed at the craftsmanship and quality of his creations.

Hi AAron,
Thanks for the info. I will shop around. Presently, I have made a temp enclosed to cover the gauges and entrance to the cabin. Trying to keep everything dry below....thanks again

no worries. keep us posted on what you plan on doing. i am meeting with my canvas guy this afternoon, at least i think that's what he said he wanted to do, concerning a cover for my helm panel and main cabin door/hatch. perry (p-dogg) keeps giving me grief on my 'harbor freight special'. hey, it works for now and did not cost all that much.

Hey Aaron, how did this work out? Did he come to the boat so that he could color match the you-know-what? (There you go Prowlerfish!)
