what prop of F36-3 or 4 blade

Post by dfg4240 »

I have seen some and read also that some have three blades but mine has four on my 1978 with 440 engines and right now I am waiting for my owners manual to come in the mail to see if it has anything on props that came with the boat. I know the port one on my boat needs to be reworked but I may as well do both and I heard it makes quite a difference in performance if they were off alignment. I'm waiting for some numbers from shumway to rework them and maybe touch up some spots on the boat with polycoat.

The 3 blade props where standard . I like the 3 blades myself . But with that said some folks like the the 4 blades better . Some say you get better performance with one over the other . And there will be some differences . Much of it opinion and a little facts too. The biggest plus of a 4 blade is the have less vibration . I would keep what you have and have them reworked . Where you able to get full rpm before ? Getting the pitch right so the rpm is where it should be is much more important then how many blades .

I made a long trip with it and the last 60 miles were around 2600 RPM---20 mph almost all the way with no vibration what so ever but when I pushed to to 28 Mph
I think it was around 3200or even 3400 there was some vibration in one engine so I backed her off to 2600 all the way.
even if it is expensive to send them out I have to do it.
These engines are running perfectly and I would never run her wide open for very long
20 MPH is good enough for me.
She's out of the water now and I'm done cleaning her up (buff and Wax) and she looks beautiful.Ready for next year.
I just bought all new dock lines and fenders. I wish I had teak deck trim on her but I don't. I was thinking of a teak rail around the transom and cockpit sides.
Tomorrow when I go there again I will measure the props and see if there is some marking on them but I think they are 20X21 props

My owners manual came today from beacon marine.
The boat was ordered with 4 blade props in july 78 and it tells me who bought the boat and what they paid for it.
this owners manual is neat to have and tells me everything that came on this boat when it left the factory.
