Tinkering With My Couch

Post by jhalb »

I finally decided to make a change to my 10 Meter's couch/bunk. We haven't use the bunks in the three years I've owned the boat and it's uncomfortable in couch mode. I took off the 5/8 plywood under the cushions and removed the top cushion. Bought a 4x8 1/4 plywood sheet and made a new back for the remaining cushion. I used the remaining wood to make a top for behind the bench. I had some leftover carpet from my wave runner trailer bunks I just replaced for the top. This gave me about 4 more inches of seat room. The only hard part was removing the 300 staples to get to the back of the cushion. The project cost about $20 and now I can watch TV in comfort.

A comfortable place to sit is an asset. People take stuff like that for granted, until they don't have one. Then they notice it. Have any "before" pictures?
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

Not a lot different in the 2 pictures, but the added depth is huge. It also allows I adult to sleep if needed. The bunk setup was too tight for adults.

its interesting how there are different strokes for different folks.

if I go out to the boat to take a nap, I always popup the top bunk and stretch out my 6' 1 1/2" self in there.

Also, if we overnight with kids, its easier to put them into the bunks than to deal with the dinette and once that is converted into a bed, the loss of that space.

I agree with you. I tried the top bunk and the problem I had is depth, not length. We also spend a lot of time in the cabin when it's too cool to be out side. I did make is so I could put it back to the original bunk setup if my needs change or if I ever sell. The new owners can convert back fairly easily.

Just about a foot around the shore. Boathouse closed for the winter.

Seems like things were not iced in till late January last year. Hate the cold need to move south! Really like the area your are in. North Shore was great and Rich Luttrell was super good to me! You have a very nice looking boat. Wish we could have met.
