refinishing ladder steps
I decided to remove and refinish my teak steps going up the ladder. Mine have some kind of black rubber glued maybe, very worn and the wood has grayed, I scapped and sanded one so far and plan on using cetol after some teak cleaner and brightner, my question is what have people replaced the black rubber with? Is their a kit to reinstall or are people using the sticker non skid stuff?

Re: refinishing ladder steps
I don't have any good pictures (that I can find quickly). I refinished my bridge ladder steps a while back. Mine were not worn to the point of losing the rubber strips, but if you are going to Cetol over top it won't really matter... rubber buried under in 2-4 coats of Cetol will have the same grip as Cetol.... If you want a more textured surface then a regular non-slip grit (or even silica sand sprinkled over wet Cetol) will give you some bite.
You may be already aware, but just in case... do not use Cetol Gloss on the steps. Regular Cetol is naturally 'sticky', but Gloss is not. Gloss becomes slippery when it gets wet (like Varnish does), and should not be used on any critical walking, climbing, or deck surfaces. I only use Gloss on my pulpit and the little 'water diverter' blocks on the side decks.
