Hello, I have a 1976 F28 and on the galley side of the boat I have a strange looking thruhull fitting, its metal with 3 or 4 screws holding it on and has a small hole, around 1/8 dia. If I blow into the hole it seems
plugged. Was this an ice box water outlet? or what?
Also having trouble with bot of my gas tanks, I have 2 90's and the gages
read empty all the time.
I have the same thru hull on my 76 F 28. I think it was for a drain for the ice box. My gas gauges have never worked in the 5 years that I have had the boat. I had a marine electrician look at them. We tested the gauges from the sending unit on top of the tank to the gauges and they tested fine. He thought that the floats had filled with gas or rotted over the years and they were just sitting on the bottom of the tank. I tried to replace the sending unit but the first two screws stripped, I gave up after that. To resolve the issue I installed 2 Northstar 210 fuel flow meters. They have a fuel consumption meter built in and a low fuel alarm. When I get gas I add the gallons purchased into the gauge. I have checked them occasionally by filling the tanks and they have alway been within 2-3 gallons. It is also nice to know how much I am burning per hour.
I purchased a new tank sending units on Ebay, for around
$19.00 You have to cut the float arm to length, and it came with new machine screws and gasket.
