Spotlight location

Post by K4282 »

Imagesoooo i couldnt stand throwing anchor anymore, a windlass is a must on a 13,000 lbs boat especially in the wind. I have a large wood pulpit and used to have my spot light under there which worked out exellent but will be removing for the anchor roller, whats everyone else have? I know I dont want to put it where it will make a glare on the deck

I put my spotlight on the top of the bow pulpit in front of the opening where the anchor goes through. No glare issues out there on the pulpit.

That's a proper set-up there Comodave.

What's right with this picture?

Spotlight in a place that minimizes glare.
Light is protected from pilings etc. by outline of pulpit to which it is mounted
A cleat to tie-off rode while at anchor, so that windlass doesn't hold the boat
A chain stopper
Self-launching anchor roller
Foot-operated switches

Well-done.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

Thanks, P-Dogg, I got the bow pulpit from Plasteak. They did a really good job making it to my specs. Got the bow rail kit from Beacon Marine, fit perfectly and was an easy install. Had the windlass leftover from my last boat so it is a little overkill for the F32, but the price was right. Same with the spotlight which has a wireless remote control. I ran battery cable to the windlass and with the wireless remote for the spotlight, I was able to just take power off the windlass and did not have to run control wiring back to the helm. So far I have tried controlling the spotlight from about 100' away and it worked great. The only hard part of the install was the forward slope of the bow deck where the pulpit mounted. Took a piece of starboard the width of the pulpit and about 8" fore and aft and planed it on an angle to fit the slope of the deck. You can see it under the aft end of the pulpit in this photo.

Oh by the way, I also left the bottom of the pulpit open so that rain water can drain forward at rest and be able to run off over the bow and not be trapped on the bow deck.

great setup, i couldnt find any roller inserts like that, Plasteak did my swim platform and I like it, I ordered a basic roller that will hang over the pulpit some and looking into windlass with helm and foot controls
