Generator

Hi,

I have a 32 foot Trojan with out a generator. Where would I install it and what size is best for it?

I will be installing a gas powered generator.

Appreciate anyone's input.

The one that is inside mine is a 6500W I believe. My boat is not equipped with AC, but I think that was the standard size genny on these boats.

We have a 6.5KW kohler, old style flat head four mounted at the rear of the engine compartment in the middle----we have air,electric stove,heat and water heater with dual 30 feeds,----that being said in certain situations ,we have to watch what we run at one time,(air ,stove and battery charger) but on the whole is adequate for us--

You would want to figure out how much power you want to draw and go from there----most of the time ours is barely loaded,and from what I have seen most boats like ours have 6.5 to 7.5 KW gennies fitted---Mike

I have a 4kw Kohler generator which sits center line, engine room, between the engines and back just a bit.

Mine is between the engines as it seems most are. It fits in the location but makes it hard to access the sea valves for the engines.

I would look at possibly putting it aft under the cockpit floor on top of the water tank or relocate the water tank. Shifting some weight aft may also help with the following sea issue these boats have and should reduce cabin noise when running.

My F-26 did not have a generator in it originally but after a few years of owning it, I installed one under the rear hatch at the back of the cockpit. The added weight in that spot definitely makes the boat handle better in a following sea.

i have a Onan, not sure what size, center of the motors and towards the aft, allot of guys around here remove them to reduce weight. My old F32 did not have one, a friend recently removed his as well from a Silverton 34C. Everyone around here goes with the Honda EU2000, their cheap and super quiet, put the thing on your bow and run the cord back, also have it for your home or whatever, I plan to keep my Onan for now anyway, maybe ill go with the Honda one day

I have a decent used unit for sale. I was going to convert my raw water cooled generator to closed cooling, but ended-up just buying a new (used) unit that was already closed-cooled.

My 6.5 Onan MCCK generator has about 744 hours on it, and works fine. All new hoses, belts, and impeller. FOB Maryland

I can think of three boaters right off the bat that are looking. Whether they'll want to pay shipping all the way from MD is the question. They were hoping for something local but I'll let them know. Thanks
