Hynautic Steering question

I have a two helm boat, flybridge and cabin
does anyone know the procedure for bleeding and adding fluid to a Hynautic steering system, boat has been laid up for a long time and no responce from upper or lower helm in respect to rudder,
Im assuming the fluid leaked out somewhat, I remember years ago I had this system in my boat and I bled it out , but dont remember

Connect your oil on the helm and you turn the wheel hard right until the cylinder locks. Open the right side bleeder and have someone hold it. Do not clamp it. Turn the wheel to the left until you have bubble-free fluid coming out. Repeat the procedure for the left. Do you lower station first, then the upper station.

It will probably take 4-6 qts. Manufactures often say to not re-use the captured oil... But that stuff is expensive. Once I have the old out out, I capture the good oil and reuse it.

That's not exactly the way its done on the Hynautic system ( pressurized system ) That's why I offered the manual , The bleeding is not done at the helm on Hynautic

I agree with Prowlerfish. I had to reseal the "pump" at the helm and the bleeding procedure was multiple turns of the steering wheel in both directions and bleed at the ram in the basement. That requires the assistance of the Admiral on the bridge.

Sounds like your talking about a different system where you add the fluid at the helm . I am referring to the Pressurize Hynautic system . I can rebuild the helm or ram and use less then 1 Qt refilling and bleeding the system . Very little fld or no loss when bleeding the helms do to the internal bleeders . Bleeding the ram you will lose a little.

There is more then one hydraulic system used by Trojan, Hynautic was the one in question . The only Hynautic system I have seen in Trojans is pressurized type . The non-pressurized systems I have seen are other brands .

Don't confuse "Hynautic" with the the word hydraulic

thanks for the manual,

got it bled and working correctly, I do have what looks like a small helm leak at my lower station, so I will probably have to get into that

has anyone out there rebuilt the helm unit? I guess I have to do mine as it leaks at my lower helm pretty good, what can I expect on re sealing this unit, or is it something I should send out,, I do have mechanical skills, so ...... I may just try it

Its not to hard on the Hynautic helm but there are a lot of parts . Watch very very closely as you take it apart . lay out the parts in order
