To Switch or Not to Switch - That is the Question
Hey guys,
I'm at the engine/battery electrical wiring stage of the re-power. Existing wiring from 1977 connects battery to starter directly (not switched). Polling other boaters reveals about 60/40 in favor of this 'not switched' configuration. One marine electrical guy says switched is 'code'.
What are you guys' thoughts?
Thanks, Dave

All of my boats have always been switched. The only things connected directly to the battery are the bilge pumps.

My charger has inline fuses before the battery.

Re: To Switch or Not to Switch - That is the Question
I just added switches. three to be exact. when they are all set to position 1 they each draw from their individual banks. if a battery goes bad i can isolate it and run off the other two. im also using blue seas terminal fuse blocks that mount directly to the batterys. complies with the ABYC 7" rule.

Switched is the "safe" way to go.
