1981 F32 battery charger
My battery charger on 1981 F32 has not worked the last few seasons. Any suggestions on best replacement? Also is charger wired to generator and shore power?

Re: 1981 F32 battery charger
I put in a Promariner 40 something. Does three banks total, and will split the 40A however it needs to go. You might also consider a combination inverter charger.

Re: 1981 F32 battery charger
I been using a Pro-sport 20 2 bank ( I don't have the genset battery on the charger ) It is a low amp charger(20) But never had any issues . It really depends on your needs . With that said a 30-40 amp 3 bank would have been a better choice . But some times you have to take what you can find on short notice ,8 years later it still doing great .
My is wired in to the boats 110 a/c system ( as are most) so it will charge on both shore and generator power

Most generators recommend that you do not charge their battery with a remote charger. They charge their battery when running and any good battery will last between generator starts.

Re: Powermania M440V2 battery charger? Other?
looking at a Powermania M440-V2 4-Bknk, 40-AMp (will actually send 40 to a single battery if it is low) battery charger (new Jan 2015).

http://www.powermaniausa.com/product.html
Anyway try these or have a better suggestion?
I have (2)each 4D and (2)each Group 24 - will swap one of these for another 4D house battery setup when I upgrade this winter.
Need to keep things charged for up to 2 months during winter (not too cold here) while we're away.
Thanks in advance!

Re: 1981 F32 battery charger
Uhhh, I looked at their website. In addition to being suspect of a business site that has pages under construction http://www.powermaniausa.com/comtest.php, I also am taken aback that the "press release" page only has three links, all from three years ago. And no mention of compliance with ABYC recommendations for chargers....http://www.marinesurveyorschool.org/sem ... erters.pdf. I have been happy with my Promariner.

+1 on the Promariner ProNauticP! I have the 1230. 30amp 3 bank. Set it and forget it. Does all the thinking for you.
Easy straight forward hook up. Easy to follow directions on all wiring sizes required.

Another happy Pro Mariner customer here. A photo of our install is here: http://www.trojanboats.net/wforum/viewt ... f=1&t=9310.
We have only had it for a few months, but so far, very impressed.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just wish that Promariner ProNauticP has a 4-bank unit.
PowerMania is new, and they seem to have targeted the bass and Walleye boat market to start... The unit will also deliver the full 40A to a single bank if it is down, where the other units I have been looking split the total between the banks, usually only giving 10A max per bank...
The Promarine does say:
Designed, Constructed and Tested to:
UL 1236 SB, CSA C22.2-107.2, FCC Class B and CEC
EN60335-1/2-29, EN60335-2-29, EN61000-3-2, EN61000-3-3
Complies w/ ABYC A-31, AC Input Power Factor Corrected, Meets EN61000-302:2000 + A2:2005
Powermania:
FCC Class A
CE
IP65 (Splash Proof)
Marine UL 1236
CSA C22.2 N0. 107.2
California Energy Commission (CEC)
nothing about ABYC
I will contact Powermanian ...

Re: 1981 F32 battery charger
Ideally you would have one battery per engine and a house bank for a total of 3 banks that should be maintained as the generator battery typically doesn't need to be charged on a regular basis IF YOU USE THE GENERATOR! Unless you have another separate/dedicated electronics or thruster bank, there really is no need for a 4 bank unit. If in the future you happen to upgrade and need another bank, an ACR would do the trick using the same 3 bank charger.rossjo wrote:.....I just wish that Promariner ProNauticP has a 4-bank unit....
So will ProNautic!rossjo wrote:...... The unit will also deliver the full 40A to a single bank if it is down...
I also got the remote display....nice feature....I mean all the LEDs on the charger itself is great but not if I have to keep opening up the engine hatch to check them! Now all the info is up top front and center.

Big Do,
Good to hear from you. How have you been?
Do you have the ProNautic P or C3 series?
The Remote display would be nice (not sure I need it though). I didn't see that, and can't find it on my supplier's price list ...

The 4 bank Powermania charger is not available until Spring 2016, and ProNautic doesn't make a 4-bank ... so ....
In the interest of redundancy, (2)each 2 bank chargers would be good, but that gets pricey (and their 2 bank is only 10Al), so ...
(1)each 63130 ProNautic-P 50-60Hz/100-240VAC > 12VDC/30A/charger - and will skip the remote for now (I really need this for when we're gone for long periods, so I won't be there to look at the display anyway).

Re: 1981 F32 battery charger
The ProMariner remote is $70 from BOEMarine (http://www.boemarine.com/promariner-pro ... map-99-99/) after you put it in your shopping carg. I buy regularly from them and have always been happy with the pricing and service.
Now that I have seen it at such a good price, I may add one to my boat as I always pull the engine room hatch to check the charger when leaving the boat. It sure would be nice to just look at the electrical panel!

Genius is also a very good brand IMO. I use the 40 amp which will do 4 banks. It has worked very well.

Good to here from you too Captain Ross, it's been a while!rossjo wrote:....Good to hear from you. How have you been?

I have the P series. I like it because you can use the factory default charge settings or take advantage of fully programmable charging that allows for low shore power voltage availability, or change charge outputs to compensate for things like diode battery isolators. I've installed dozens of these and think they are a good unit.

Re: 1981 F32 battery charger
So we ran by the boat this evening after the cancelled boat show. My wife was sitting in the salon and I did not want to disturb her and waited until she was ready to leave before pulling the hatch to the engine room to check the charger status. Well, I forgot to check it in the process of getting our things together to leave. That sealed my decision to get the ProMariner remote monitor so I can see at a glance what is going on with the batteries...
