I decide to attempt to get the generator started on my Tri Fly. I change the oil, check the plugs, disconnect the AC. power out and setup a new battery.
When I hook up the pos cable to the battery a puff of smoke came from, what I later find out is the (condenser start solenoid suppression)??
What is that thing for and why would it do that?
The gen. I know has not run in at least 4 years, the flywheel does turn, the motor is not seized and I had all the run switches off (on the main panel and on the generators attached panel)
I have the manual for it (thanks internet) but nothing in the way of trouble shooting.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, I pulled the condenser?? off the starter relay, reconnected the battery and the genny started right up. Apparently it's not vital for running. I assume it's for electrical "noise"
