Just Got my 76 Trojan.. Lots of new toys installed

Post by Whipple »

I got my Trojan about a month ago for a steal. I have 2 brand new ( not rebuilt ) 350's w/ fuel injection installed all new trannies
My electrical has been gone through and redone ( mostly )
I have 2 bad spots in the boat, one is the rear shower wall has rot. I am assuming something is leaking from up top. I am not an expert at power boating ass I have always lived aboard a sailboat. I also have a leak at the forward birthing area that shares a wall with the bathroom. Both have a bit of rot. Anyone have a clue where to start looking? And is it ok to chop those bulk heads out and just rebuild as I would on a sailboat or should I know something first?

Ill send pictures in a day or so as I have just finished bottom paining and its about to head back into the water as soon as I install the outboard shower unit

The bulk heads are needed so should be repaired of if real bad maybe replaced . And of course the leaks fixed loo at the deck fittings for possible leaks would be a start . Knowing what boat you have would be a help as Trojan made about 10 or more different boats in 76 .

The fact that a rear shower has been mentioned, indicates to me that maybe this Trojan is a Tricabin.

I believe that what you are terming to be a bulkhead, may indeed be that thin vinyl-covered wall that separates the two areas. (V-bunks and forward head)

Regarding Leaks (Aaron might be better here) - The location of the front birthing area (front V-bunks) indicate in my opinion a possible leak through the front window of the salon as it happens to be positioned directly over that wall between the front head and the v-bunks. Another possible culprit is that darn, mini, stainless-steel eaves trough that Trojan put on the Tricabins. The screws that hold that trough often need re-bedding with silicone.

The leak in the rear shower I would personally assume to be an internal problem originating from the shower itself. There might be a crack or hole somewhere within the shower stall.

Just some thoughts from a former Tricabin owner who constantly fought (and now is helping the new owner fight) the hated Tricabin, aft cabin - both rear corner flooding when heavy rain occurs.
