As some of you may have seen, I have a small project underway on my Tri Fly. I am about to put in one of the two engines and I can't figure out or remember (for absolute certainty) which is reverse rotation or standard. I've googled my brain out and all I get is the rotation direction of a 400 Chrysler distributer. Does anyone know the crank rotation direction of a 400 Chrysler.
My engines and transmissions have arrow stickers on them indicating the rotation of something, but what? I've read it's the direction of the crank and also the direction of the prop attached to that drive gear.
To add to the confusion the Tri Flys are different than the Tri cabin because the Tri fly has the "V" drive so the reverse engine is on the opposite side..........isn't it??

I have put the trannys and gear boxes in with the sticker arrows pointing at the engine across from it (engine> <engine)
I assume this is correct but, it's a big job If I get it wrong.

The props should turn outboard (CW for Starboard / CCW for Port if look at her from astern). Knowing that, perhaps you can trace yourself back?

my f28 has v drives and the arrows should point so the props rotation is to the outsides. I probably will confuse you but starboard engine is reverse or CW engine (from flywheel end) the v drive reverses rotation. Think about the engine driving a big gear one way and it driving the second gear (prop shaft) the other way. I have 318s and the distributors turn the same way (different firing order but same direction) I posted pics on this website with pics down the distributor shaft hole so one can see what the gear on the camshaft looks like for either engine. Should be same for 360s.

in regards to engine rotation. Arrows on Tranny are output shaft rotation.

Hi Barrie, sounds like you have this figured out. By the way, my tri cabin has v-drives and yes, the starboard engine is the counter rotating. The engine you got from me with the hole in the block was the starboard (CR) engine from my boat. Jimbo.
