10 Meter Mid Cabin "Refresh"

Well, It's almost that time in Upstate NY. The depression of shorter days has already set in. The sun was set yesterday before 7:30. Gross.

I'm planning on pulling both motors this fall. I have a leaky rear main seal and I am tired of seeing oil in my bilge. I decided that both motors are going to come out and I will give them a little refresh. I've got a buddy who owns a small marina who is going to let me store there and work on it without any issues. I lined up another buddy who owns a crane to help me pull the motors! Its probably a bit overkill, but the marina tractor and forklift won't do the job.

Any tips on pulling the motors from a Mid cabin? Am I going to need to remove the radar arch to do it? Everything else seems easy enough. I just have to figure out how to get two 700lb motors out of my truck once I get them home .

Well I got my 1400 lb engine out of my truck with a 2 two ton Harbor freight engine hoist ( better reach then the one ton )

We use a fork lift to get the engine out .

No, you shouldn't have to remove the arch to pull the motors. But, I gaurantee the bottom 10" is rotted on each side of the arch if you are so inclined to take that on this year. I just it this past winter and have pics.

Off topic, Here's is a pic of my transom which I know you asked for a while ago. Notable upgrades are:

1) towel/grab rail
2) actual grab rail above ladder
3) eliminate factory ladder and installed under swim platform
4) relocated transom step (so it's centered in the opening) and made it bigger with teak overlay
5) relocated shore power outlets from Stb Side midship
6) made teak transom insert, mine was missing
7) teak swim platform from an old Chris Craft + underwater lights
fresh water washdown (not sure why my "8" is being converted to a smiley face but I'm going with it)
9) not really transom but in the pic, replaced rod holders with SS cupholders

Thanks Bob! I really hope I don't have to deal with a rotten arch. My winter project list is way to big for that! Thanks for the transom pics! I've been waiting for that! I love the long grab rail. I may tackle my water logged platform this winter as well. I'd really like something that extends a bit further...

I think if i was using a fork lift, the radar arch wouldnt be an issue. I'm going to have to take a closer look this week...

We just recently purchase a 1970 Trojan Houseboat. 34' Planning to try and get a Surveyor to come take a look. Paid $100.00 cash for it. Want to try to refurbish. Does anyone know what the back of the boat should look like as it is sitting in the water? I was told that the exhaust should be above the waterline. We see 4 exhaust outlets but they are all under the waterline. We are taking on water and are trying to figure out the source. The boat doesn't run at this time and we have not ship to shore power to hook in to.

Yes forklift would be way easier but i couldnt find anyone with a forklift to come out. I've got a guy with a crane showing up for $200 on saturday...should be a fun day!

Need some engine hauling tips....

would you hook to the two brackets attached or use a mounting plate that attaches at the carb or an engine leveler to haul these out? Anyone with experience here?

Everything it detached with the exception of the motor mounts...that happens today!

i dont think it matters other than personal preference. only problem ive ever had with using the original hooks is sometimes the chain will pinch the distributor or some other object in the way

Well, they are out and nestled cozy in my garage, just waiting for me to pay them a little attention.

Special note to anyone hauling with a crane...pull them in front of the radar arch. We tried behind first and that was a fail. In front was perfect and easy.

P.S. - My bilge is almost as dirty as my garage! Don't judge me...

Oh it already has! I started the tear down of the motor with the bad rear main seal and found evidence of water intrusion. This jobs gonna be bigger than expected!
