speaking of A/C

The A/C in my mid cabin seems to work ok. After not working for many years, I got a charge over the summer and it worked great. I guess the real test will be in the spring and it held the charge.

Two things that bugged me.

1) It's loud especially since the unit is located in the forward berth. I was planning on adding some sound deadening to the inside walls of the enclosure which should help. The intake vent is huge and a lot of the noise is coming from that.

Any ideas there?

2) I would also like to lower the fan speed if possible. The control unit only has high/low.

Any replacement units that will allos me to slow down the fan and the noise too?

What brand of unit? My return grills get loud when the filter in the grill starts to get dirty.

is it a cruisair unit. if so here a digital themostat i have installed on my f32 . this will give you 5-6 speeds for the fan from very low to high either manually set or automatically controlled by the control unit. i have been very very happy with this control and it was simple to install.

i replaced my rotary 3 knob contols with this micro air fx-1 retro fit kit
distributor was AER, piece of cake to install.

I don't see any retrofit on their menu to select. Has their webpage layout changed?

i have the vertical panel which the part number is listed in the other post i made. it fit in the exact spot the 3 knob rotary control did.

Pretty sure mine is a 16k LunAire and has a square/digital control. It only has two fan speeds (high/low) so I like the idea of six speeds.

On my fresh air intake vent, I don't have a filter. The guy who did the re-charge actually pointed that out and suggested I get a foam filter at Home Depot and install it behind the grill. That might help cut down the noise a little.

g36 - where is your actual A/C unit installed? Is it in that side cupboard in the salon, or down in the engine compartment somewhere?

Got bad news for you, if your ac leaked once it will leak again. They do not fix themselves. If it leaks down during the time it is heavy use could be on the high pressure side, if it leaks down during non use primarily it most likely will be on the low pressure side of the system.

Fan speeds can be problematic unless you have low side pressure or evaporator temperature sensing device that will to cut out compressor prior to the evaporator going below freezing and making a block of ice, which can occur if running with very cold condensing water or slow or impeded air flow over the evaporator coil. (the one that gets cold in AC mode.

i have a cruisair split system the evaporator/blower assembly is indeed in the stbd side wall. the picture (in my previous post)shows the air return grille the unit is right behind it. the condensor/compressor is mounted between the aft fuel tanks above the fresh water tank under the cockpit floor. there is also a evaporator and blower assy in the v berth tee'd from the freon lines. i have never regretted installing this digital thermostat. set the temp and forget it.
