Zinc for running gear

Post by Lawman »

Have any of you fine gentlemen used Pettit zinc coating spray paint for your running gear? I've read different forums that state you could also use Cold Ganvanized spray paint that has a high amount of zinc in it.?. Speedprop is just way too expensive.

So...let me get this straight, Guys. You use the zinc-laden galvanized spray instead of traditional zincs OR...in addition to them?

"Pettit zinc coat barnacle barrier "
Good stuff 3 thin coats max ( per the can ) I see tony uses 4 w/ no problem . I have very good luck with it . I use a can and half . and I run 22x22 wheels

Good bang for the buck.

Cold Ganvanized spray paint ? not sure how well it will work but the Pettit stuff works great

You still use your normal zincs.

risctaker, it's in addition to your regular zincs. You can spray it on your shafts and props to keep those pain in the a$$ barnacles off.

I wonder if it works on zebra mussels ?
No barnacles on lake Ontario, but zebra mussels are in the Great Lakes

It's worth a shot. Best 60 bucks I spend for clean smooth bottom. Lord knows the other smooth bottom cost more. 8) :D

Just ordered (4) 16oz cans ... $60 total.

Wonder how it would work on my skiff's galvanized steel trailer!?

I've used the Cold Galvanizing spray on this trailer. Will take the rust off 1 area and try it on the trailer.

Sure hate to see those people with the Tsunamis in Japan. That would be horrible. 10meters would go up to our 3rd floor bedroom!
