Mercruser ? marine power ? crusader ? 2 barrel ? 4 barrel ? HP ? can make a difference
If your just setting the carb , I usually adjust the idle speed between 550-650 more of a by feel thing then spec. as some engine like a little more or less rpm for smooth running .

Be more than happy to help but help us first. Year, and HP rating would be a good start. Two or four barrel carb...like Paul said.

Didn't hear back the brand yet.
What type of carb? I assume Quadrajet. You will need a TAC to connect at the engine. Set idle to 600rpm. Turn both adjustment screws in, only snug, NOT tight. Then turn each out 1 and 1/2 turn. Reset the idle to 600. Now adjust in or out until you peek the idle speed on each screw, then reset the idle when finish to your desired speed. 550-600 RPM in gear as the mercruiser manual says.
Good luck, there are some 4 barrel quadrajet you tubes that explain this pretty well too.
