one hot riser one cool

Post by Jezebel »

Help me out guys...

I have one riser (port) that is cool (room temperature) and one (starboard) that is hot (i can put my hand on it for 5 seconds without burning me) I'm running a good temp on the gauge.... 160-175. I have a 74 trojan sea raider. 302 w/351 W, Ford Merc.

Thanks,

John

Sounds like one manafold is flowing more then the other . maybe one is pluged up or has a restiction in the hoses. Keep in mine it is not abnormal for one to run hotter then the other . A weak water pump impler can add to this some what . Try cleaning the manafolds and rissers
check the insides of the hoses and fittings for restictions , check the water pump impler ( if its been a few years I would change it )

I had one manifold running hot so I took the riser off and poked around with a clothes hanger enough to knock some of the junk loose and put it back together and it has been running cool ever since. Very cost affective. :D

I think it must be the riser... everything else is new.

You most likely have a blockage in one of the water jackets of the riser. Just to be sure that it's not a weak water pump you might want to take the water supply hose off that feeds that side of engine and see what kind of water flow you getting.
