After getting the deal of the century on storage and winterizing last fall, (which included the re-launch and de-dwinterizing as well) I have to admit I was a little nervous about getting things going again this spring. I have neighbors with 23 and 25 foot single screw Cobalts that paid 7-800 more than me for the same service, but on boats 10 feet shorter with one less engine, no generator, and nowhere near the amount of plumbing. So you can understand why I was feeling a little nervous. How can I get 3 times the work for 2/3ds the price??!! (it ended up working out just fine though, and I definately know where its going back to this fall.)
As I mentioned a week ago or so, the impeller for the Onan crapped out. The little Green box from Onan came on Friday, and I got it all back together in the afternoon. I decided that I should give it a good testing to see how she goes with the new impeller. This unit has a history of being a PITA, but I had it dialed in pretty good last year after replacing the fuel pump and doing some tuning. I decided to run it under load for several hours and see what happened. 5 hours later, with the forward heat and the water heater on the whole time, and a few cups of tea made on the galley range while I puttered with other stuff, it performed admirably. Solid current output tested a few different times at different intervals and loads on the Fluke, and excellent cooling circulation the whole time.
The Stbd. engine, which definately has its moments, is playing nicely so far this season as well. Going over dwell, point gap, and ignition timing seems to have solved most of its issues. I am starting to think it was out of dwell by 5 or maybe even 8 or 10 degrees. That would create a situation like what I was experiencing where the circuit would start breaking down under load, espescially in the hotter months of summer. For now I am living with the old points and condensor system since its actually working well at the moment. Ultimately I will go to breakerless later this season. I am having a hard time deciding between magnetic and unilite, so if anyone feels like sounding off with some feedback on the topic I wouldn't mind hearing what you have to say.
As soon as I got ignition sorted I started in on the Q-jets. While I am commited to ditching them for the 1409's if they decide to not play nice, right now they are dialed right in. I am getting great fuel economy and both engines start VERY easy and run very smooth. For right now its not broke, so I'm not fixin'.

I have managed to log a little over 16 hours this week. Started at 1624 hrs on the 10th of this month, and cracked 1640 yesterday afternoon. If I was like most of those folks over at the Harris Bay Yacht Club where I stored it I could take one more ride, have my 20 hours for the season, and use it as a dock ornament until fall. Instead though, I think I'll keep using it and leave all the pier sitting to that string of 6 Carvers over at the Y/C that the kid was saying never moved except for over the parking lot on a trailer. I should have known. One of them was named 'Sentinal'.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend either onboard, or getting ready to launch or start some work on their Trojans. (Yeah, you too Tony
