transducer ?'s on 85 F36

I just got a garmin gpsmap 741xs and now need to learn about transducers: what's the deadrise, plastic or bronze, where's the best place to install? I'm afraid to admit I don't need it for fishing, just depth. I'm on Lake Erie, so usually in 40-60'...any input is much appreciated!

Airmar makes most of all the transducers for the manufacturers. Look over their site and you'll find how to measure, install and other technical data. Good luck.

It depends on your usage requirements.

If you just want to know how deep you are, you can get away with a transom mounted P66 for about $175 and an hour of your time and not even attempt to mess around with a thru-hull installation. The most optimal place to mount it would be as far port or starboard as possible.

The B60 will get you more clarity while at running speed, but it's a through hull and installation requires drilling a hole in your boat and placement is more critical. It's not that difficult if you are handy. There are some shoot-through-hull options available as well, but performance will suffer even if you have a solid glass hull (then again, you're in Lake Eerie).

IMO, I would steer clear of through-hull plastic.

I usually get on a soap-box and preach about not cheaping-out on transducers. But in your case, it works.

IMO a bronze thru-hull is the best way to go on a inboard boat . I would see if you have any old thru-hulls that may not be in use , possibly reuse their location .

Don't confuse a thru-hull with a see/shoot thru-hull

If you go that route, and you have a make the hole bigger, make yourself a plug the same size as the existing hole, then use your hole say to cut the new hole.
