Paint color
I have a swim platform all made, and ready for paint. Problem is, there are like 9 'white' colors. This is a 1988 11 meter express the platform will go on. Does anyone know what color would match the best? Going with Interlux. Choices are:
Off white
Hatteras white
White
Matterhorn white
Cream
Arctic white
Mediterranean white
Oyster white
Snow white ( I assume no Dwarfs to help apply this one).
Anyone ??????

Re: Paint color
Can you get paint chart so you can match the color ? you won't get it exact but at least as close as you can .

Re: Paint color
Not sure if Interlux has those, and having dealt with industrial paint, I know that not all paint colors are the same from one mfg to the next. But, that may be my only choice to get it as close as possible. Not looking for exact, but real close will do.

Re: Paint color
Interlux / Industrial has a booklet that they produce with all their Marine stuff in it, that any real dealer should have tons of copies on hand (free). There are colour charts in there that should be reasonably helpful.
Or you could just go the other way : pick a red or blue or black or grey.... Just decide you don't care if it matches and pick a colour you like. Do you have a boot stripe or other highlight colour you might want to support? Heck - nobody with a wood platform on a glass boat has ever been shamed because the colour doesn't match!

Re: Paint color
A long shot here but has anybody ever contacted Spectrum Color in Florida to see if they have Trojan specs for paint, or if they carry a "Trojan" white paint? I know they have specs for the gel.

Yea, when I saw 9 choices of white, i said, " oh crap".... Figures....
Ill keep snooping around. Good suggestion on Spectrum. At least that said 'off white'. So getting closer.

Re: Paint color
Ya, they can go by the year as indicated in their selections but I like giving them the hull number to be safe as they can use it to cross reference. They've always been very helpfull to me. Having said all that, even the original color is likely not going to match the current gel color on the boat as it's changed a bit from being exposed to time and the elements.

Re: Paint color
I'll try the interlux dealer here in town. I did not consider having it match the stripe, or the new name sticker.... That is a great suggestion. I'll have to consult the exterior decoration manager (Second mate called the wife ). We are also having a new rear canvas made. Maybe match that as well since it will also match the boat name. Hmmmm. Wonder how many shades of green there are.... My head is starting to hurt.
Thanks for the info and great advice!!! I'll post pictures when it is done.

Re: Paint color
Well, went with Interlux off white Brightside. Did a 1-1/2" area smooth around the non-skid, and have the rub rail already heated and bent to form. Just need to add the Stainless steel inserts and she is ready to be put in the brackets. Did a base coat of precoat primer
Platform is 130" long, 31" wide. Almost big enough to hold a small dance recital.....
Ill post the whole build procedure on a separate post in case anyone else wants to give it a shot. Total cost to build, about $750. Was quoted $4,750..... That savings paid for our new 10' dingy....
sanded smooth, then second coat of precoat, sanded smooth, then one base coat of paint, light sanded, taped off the smooth area, painted non skid area, while working it, I sprinkled on the non skid with a cheese shaker. Then before that coat dried (1/2 hr) I peeled off the tape. Let dry 24 hrs between coats, and finished with two top coats, light sanding only on smooth area. All rolled with foam roller and tipped.Platform is 130" long, 31" wide. Almost big enough to hold a small dance recital.....
