Hynautics Helm Rebuild- Not so Bad!

When I splashed my boat a month ago, I noticed yellow fluid leaking from the helm. A little research on the internet showed me that this is pretty common; they don't make the H50 helm anymore; but you can still get the seals kit (about $30). So I removed the helm from the boat, took it home, replace...

I put in a cork floor and love it. Warning, though- even though it is in the galley, the colors lightened significantly except where it was covered with a throw rug.

I have always used Crusader risers and elbows. They are only about $10 a piece more than aftermarkets, and they are already painted blue.

My boat is in salt water, so I last replaced them after 7 years. They still looked new.

This thread has really gone south.

I have digital tachs in addition to the analogs, which I think are worth their weight in gold for syncing engines while at cruising speed. Your ear will tell you when the engines are out of sync, but won't tell you which engine is faster or slower.

Paul- I know Crusader recommends 15w-40 for their newer engines- but I was told I don't have a newer engine and should stick with the straight 40w per the owners manual. The rep may have had the reasoning wrong, but the recommendation may still be correct. On the other hand, he may have been full of...

I was told by a Crusader rep that 15w40 oil is not appropriate for my 1990 350's, and I should stick with the straight 40. He said the 15w40 was designed for the newer roller tappet engines, and not for the older blocks.

If you installed a battery charger with a prewired a/c cord on an inboard boat, I'd like to know how this was done in accordance with ABYC and CG specs. I would have thought a ProTech or ProNautic would have been a better choice.

You can buy a Lewmar for less than a Good.

But I have bought three Lewmars in the past five years, one freefall and two power up/down, for a total cost of over $2,500. A Good would have been very inexpensive in comparison.

I bought new end cap and gasket kits from Lighthouse Marine- I don't think I paid as much as the eBay listings are asking. I also bought new gaskets (listed as Sendure, I believe) for about $2.50 a gasket. The Sendure gaskets are very thick.

The RCCK setup doesn't have shielded wires- but then, neither does your V8s.

I've problems with some of my replacement zincs, and had to grind the edges off the end a little to get them to fit correctly.

Did you cut it to fit between the ribs under the cockpit floor, or apply as one sheet over the ribs?

The light on the radar arch supersedes the need for a windshield light. Why don't you remove the windshield light, change the arch light to a two way, and wire it in the same way as the old windshield light?

I may be wrong, but in my experience hot water tanks always feed cold water from the bottom, and draw off hot water from the top.
Is it possible a bypass was put in when the tank was winterized? That's how I winterize my hot water tank.
